Some of the most-saved TikToks aren’t meant to be watched at all. They’re short clips that people turn into live photos, to use as a moving wallpaper or to add a bit of motion to their own photo dumps and slideshows. If you’ve tried to do the same, you’ve probably noticed it isn’t obvious. Here’s how to save a TikTok as a live photo on iPhone, what to do when the option is missing, and what the equivalent is on Android.

What a “Live Photo” Actually Is

On iPhone, a Live Photo is a still picture paired with about three seconds of video and sound. Press and hold it in the Photos app and it moves; set it as your Lock Screen and it plays when you wake the phone.

That pairing is the tricky part. A Live Photo isn’t a single file that a website can hand you: iOS only creates one through the camera or an app on the phone, such as TikTok itself. So no website, Tiklo included, can drop a real Live Photo straight into your Photos library. What a website can do is give you a clean video that an app then turns into a Live Photo. Anyone promising a one-click “Live Photo download” from a browser is glossing over that.

Android has no Apple Live Photos, but the same idea exists under other names: motion photos on Samsung and Google Pixel, and a “Live photo” mode on some Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi and Honor phones. For wallpapers, though, most Android phones simply use a short video, which is easier.

Method 1: TikTok’s Built-in Live Photo Button (iPhone)

The fastest way works inside the TikTok app:

  1. Open the TikTok video you want.
  2. Tap Share (the arrow on the right).
  3. In the bottom row of options, scroll sideways and tap Live Photo.
  4. TikTok saves it to your Photos app, where it shows up as a Live Photo.

If you don’t see Live Photo, the creator has usually turned off downloads for that video, and TikTok hides its own save options with it. That’s when the second method helps.

Method 2: Download the Video, Then Convert It (iPhone)

  1. In TikTok, tap Share → Copy link.
  2. Paste the link into Tiklo and download the MP4 without watermark. For the sharpest result, use the HD download.
  3. Open a video-to-Live-Photo app. intoLive is one of the best-known free options on the App Store.
  4. Pick the video, trim it to the few seconds you want (Live Photos are short), and save it as a Live Photo.

The result sits in your Photos app like any other Live Photo, without the TikTok watermark.

TikTok Photo Posts With Live Photos

Some photo carousels mix still images and live photos. Paste one of those links into Tiklo’s live photo downloader and every slide comes back in full quality. The animated slides get a LIVE badge and an MP4 button: that’s the motion clip, about three seconds long, with its sound. Convert that clip with method 2 and you have the live photo back on your iPhone. For more on photo posts, see how to download a TikTok live photo.

On Android

  • Samsung Galaxy: the Gallery app can set a video directly as your lock screen, so a Tiklo MP4 is all you need.
  • Other Android phones: menus vary by brand. Many phones can use a video as wallpaper through their theme app or a “video live wallpaper” app.

Tiklo doesn’t create Samsung or Google motion photo files (yet), but for a moving wallpaper you don’t need one. The full steps are in our guide to setting a TikTok as a live wallpaper. For everything else on Android, see our TikTok live photo guide for Android.

FAQ

Why is there no Live Photo option on some TikToks?

Usually because the creator turned off downloads. TikTok then hides its save options, Live Photo included. Downloading the MP4 with Tiklo and converting it still works.

Can I save a TikTok as a live photo without the watermark?

Yes. Download the MP4 without watermark with Tiklo, then convert it with a Live Photo app.

Can a website save a real Live Photo to my iPhone?

No. A Live Photo pairs a photo and a video in a way that only apps on the phone can create. A website gives you the video, and an app on your iPhone does the pairing.

Does the live photo keep the sound?

The MP4 clip Tiklo saves from a live photo slide includes its sound. Whether the sound survives the conversion depends on the app you use. Wallpapers never play sound.

Is there a live photo on Android?

Not Apple’s format, but the same idea exists: Samsung and Google call it a motion photo, and some Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi and Honor phones call it a live photo. For wallpapers, most Android phones use a short video directly.

Conclusion

If TikTok shows the Live Photo button, use it: it’s the quickest way. If it doesn’t, download the MP4 without watermark with Tiklo and turn it into a Live Photo with an app. On Android, skip the conversion and use the video as your wallpaper.
